The Trees

by Philip Larkin

The trees are coming into leaf
Like something almost being said;
The recent buds relax and spread,
Their greenness is a kind of grief.

Is it that they are born again
And we grow old? No, they die too,
Their yearly trick of looking new
Is written down in rings of grain.

Yet still the unresting castles thresh
In fullgrown thickness every May.
Last year is dead, they seem to say,
Begin afresh, afresh, afresh.

Welcome to Into Leaf, a place to gather, learn, and grow. I created Into Leaf because I love bringing people together to share their skills, stories, and passions. This is something I’ve done as a documentary filmmaker, writer, educator, and mother. And now I’m turning my attention to this amazing community.

There is no exhilaration quite like the one I feel when the earth rebounds and comes into leaf every spring. Along with the world, we each unfurl—mentally, physically, and spiritually. That's why I love Philip Larkin's poem The Trees; it perfectly captures that miraculous moment of renewal and limitless potential. And that’s what Into Leaf provides: an engaging, enriching and welcoming place to unfold and connect with your community while learning new things and having fun.

I hope you’ll join Into Leaf soon for an upcoming workshop, learning, or experience!
